Types of Skin
Whatever race or gender, your skin can be classified under one of five distinct skin types. These are:
- Normal: normal skin is characterized by having small pores, and have no visible signs of acne
- Oily: if your skin has enlarged pores and patches of shiny areas, then your skin is classified under oily. Those with oily skin are most likely to experience breakouts on the arms, back, face and sometimes, even the chest.
- Dry: if you have dry and itchy patches particularly on the skin of your cheeks, arms, chest, belly and legs; then your skin is dry.
- Combination: a person with combination skin will usually have dry patches on the cheeks, yet the forehead, chin and nose are oily. With reference to other parts of the body, the skin on the arms may be dry, whereas the skin on the back is oily.
- Sensitive: sensitive skin is similar to combination skin; however, if your skin is sensitive, it can only be either oily or dry with patches that are itchy, blotchy or prone to frequent breakouts.
If you don’t know what your skin type is, it is best that you consult with a dermatologist or a skin care professional. Knowing your skin type is essential as your skin care regimen will depend on this. Note, however, that the skin type on your face may be different from the skin type on the rest of your body.
